Membership Descriptions
Family – Married couple and all dependents living at same address. Dependents must be on the parents’ tax return.
Single Parent Family – Any household with one parent and dependent children. Dependents must be on the parent’s tax return.
College – Student must be a full time college student and show a current ID and class schedule. Qualifying students may be on parent’s membership.
Adult – 18 years and older.
Youth – For ages 0–17 years.
Adult Health Center - 18 years and older.
Family Health Center – Married couple and all dependents. Dependents must be on the parents’ tax return.
Single Parent Family Health Center – One parent and all dependents. Dependents must be on the parent’s tax return.

Healthy, fit employees are a great benefit to any employer. The YMCA offers discounts for companies with eight or more participating employees.
Bank Draft
The YMCA will automatically draft membership fees from your savings or checking account on the 21st of each month. A 30-day written notice must be given for bank draft membership cancellations.
Locker Rentals
The YMCA has lockers available in each locker room for daily use. Participants are required to bring their own lock. Locks on lockers not rented must be removed daily.
Age Requirements
Children 8 years and under must either be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older, or in a supervised program (including YMCA babysitting) while at the YMCA. Participants must be at least 14 years old to utilize all fitness areas. Participants must be at least 18 years old to enter the Men’s or Women’s Health Center.
Membership |
Lapsed Membership
If your membership has been cancelled or lapsed you are considered a new member when rejoining. The member has the option of rejoining or paying for the missed months, whichever costs less.
Membership Card
One membership card is issued upon registration and is required for admittance into the YMCA. Lost cards will be replaced for $5.00 per card. Keychain cards may also be purchased for $5.00. Members from other YMCAs must show membership card and picture ID.
Membership Freezing
Memberships cannot be put on hold for vacation, business trips, or anticipated non-use periods. Freezing will be allowed if pre-approved for maternity, military and medical leave.
Refund & Cancellation Policy
The YMCA has a no refund policy for memberships and program fees. Adjustments may be made for credit toward other programs due to special circumstances. Cancellation of monthly bank draft for memberships requires a 30-day written notice prior to draft date. Cancellation forms may be picked up at the YMCA front desk.
Outstanding Balances
Any person with an outstanding balance is not allowed to participate in any YMCA program until the balance is paid. Balances may be turned over to collections. A $20 fee will be assessed for checks and drafts returned.
Dress Code
Participants must wear shirts and shoes at all times. Clean, non-marking athletic shoes are required to use YMCA facilities. Goggles are recommended while playing racquetball.
Behavior Policy
Individuals that do not follow facility rules will receive a verbal warning on the first offense. The second reprimand will result in removal from the facility. Alcohol and drugs are prohibited on YMCA property. Foul language or disruptive behavior is not permitted at the YMCA. The YMCA has the right to refuse service.

Lap Swim
The Central YMCA and Tamaqua High School pools are open for lap swim throughout the week. Refer to pool schedule for days and times.
Open Swim
Children 8 years old and under and all non-swimmers must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older for open swim. All children must pass a swim test to enter deep water.
Water Aerobics
Water Aerobics is a safe, refreshing water exercise for both swimmers and non-swimmers.

Outdoor Aquatic Programs
The YMCA offers aquatic programs at the Fleetwood Borough Swimming Pool, Adamstown Borough Swimming Pool, Denver Borough Swimming Pool, East Cocalico Swimming Pool, Lake Hauto Club, and Tamaqua Bungalow Swimming Pool during the summer season. Refer to the 2008 summer brochure for further information.
Train with one of the best YMCA swim teams in Pennsylvania. There will be a free, two-week trial period for any new swimmers that would like to try out the program. This two-week trial period is valid only before October 10, 2008. Registration form and fee for returning swimmers is due the first night of practice. Practice begins September 15, 2008. Get a head start on the competition. Train with one of the best YMCA swim teams in the State of Pennsylvania. This program will help prepare you for the upcoming summer season. Swim Lesson Information
Instructors are certified lifeguards. Class sizes are kept to 6 swimmers per instructor and are held in the recreation swim area of the pool. Instructors will hold child/teen/adult friendly classes. Parents are allowed to stay on the pool bleachers during class time as long as they refrain from approaching their child’s class. Please have your child ready to enter the water by the time his/her class starts. This includes having your child use the restroom before class begins.

Housing
Homelessness affects
people of all ages, races, genders, and ethnicities, and has a variety of
causes, including chemical dependency, unemployment, and domestic abuse. For
this reason, the YMCA of Reading and Berks County has a number of housing
programs which serve a variety of populations. Each program provides case
management in an effort to address the root causes of homelessness. Program
participants learn living skills, budgeting and employment skills as they work
toward self-sufficiency.
Partners
Programs are
collaborative projects of the County of Berks, City of Reading, Department of
Public Welfare, Council on Chemical Abuse, Service Access Management, Inc.,
Housing and Urban Development, Federal Home Loan Bank, and Berks County
Probation Department. The Bridge Houses and SAFE Houses are funded, in part,
through the Pennsylvania Department of Health, County of Berks and the Single County
Authority.
Eligibility
Criteria
•Homeless or sleeping in an environment not suitable for occupancy.
•Chemically free for at least 5 consecutive days.
•Interested in achieving financial self sufficiency.
•Motivated to “live life on life’s terms”.
•Willing to participate in counseling and case management.
•Committed to development of a self-sufficiency action plan.
•Able to participate in outpatient counseling.
Reconnection Program
This program covers transportation costs for homeless individuals and families to help them reconnect with supportive services and loved ones outside the Berks County area. 610-378-4748
Men’s
Bridge House and SAFE House
Designed in a
group home setting with 24-hour staff, the Men’s Bridge House is a thirteen bed
unit for chemically dependent homeless men. The Men’s SAFE House is designed
to assist chemically dependent homeless men who are involved with the Berks County criminal justice system to continue Staying Addiction Free
and Employed. The recommended length of stay for both programs is six

Single
Room Occupancy (SRO) Units
The YMCA offers
rooms for rent to single men. Residents are exempt from the program
eligibility requirements, although the YMCA strives to maintain a recovery

Women’s
Bridge House and SAFE House
In these
programs, chemically dependent homeless women receive support and assistance in
maintaining sobriety and becoming self-sufficient. To be eligible for the SAFE
House, women must also be involved with the Berks County criminal justice
system. Residents may stay in these programs for 6 – 9 months. 610-378-4747
Twin Peaks
The Twin
Peaks program is a supportive housing program designed for homeless men who are
chemically dependent with a co-occurring mental health disorder. Applicants
must be stabilized on their medications and able to abide by program
guidelines. Program length varies from 6 to 18 months based on client
limitations and barriers to success. 610-378-4716
Y-Haven
This program is
for 12 homeless, single women with one child, who are working towards
independence from the public welfare system. The maximum length of stay is two
years. Y-Haven is designed in a group home setting to provide support and
education to young mothers.

Y-Passages
The Y-Passages
program is designed for homeless men who are in need of added support to fully
achieve their goals. Residents may stay in this program for 6 – 9 months.

Honor House
The Honor House program is for up to six homeless veterans who are chemically
dependent. To be eligible for the Honor House program, applicants must be
deemed as a benefit eligible veteran through the Lebanon VA.

DUI-II
Program
This program is
designed specifically to meet the needs of individual men (16) and women (3) who
have been charged with their second Driving Under the Influence offense. A
two-phase program, Phase I mandates partial confinement in our housing program
for 90 days and aftercare participation for 4 months. Family members are involved

The highlight of the picnic is the presentation of our annual Character Development Hall of Fame Awards. 9th Annual Breakfast of Champions for Youth
The Breakfast of Champions raises money for the YMCA’s Strong Kids Annual Support Campaign, which provides financial assistance to children and families in need, enabling the Y to provide services to anyone regardless of ability to pay. As the YMCA is now serving over 1,000 children and families every day, the need for these funds is growing and the need for your help has never been more critical. Marsh Madness
The St. Patty’s Day Marsh Madness is a polar bear plunge into Blue Marsh in the cold of winter. This is a sponsorship based activity requiring each participant to raise at least $25 to participate.
